What is a Treatment Like?

A treatment is given on a clothed client, by the laying-on of hands onto positions around the head, shoulders, stomach and feet. The practitioner may use other positions for specific conditions of the client. Each position is held for several minutes and a full treatment lasts between 40 to 60 minutes. Reiki creates a glowing radiance that is deeply relaxing, balancing and stress-relieving for both client and practitioner.

How Does it Work?

Reiki energy  has its own intelligence and knows exactly where to go and what to do. It is multi-dimensional and will heal the cause of a problem on whatever level it exists – body, mind or spirit. It does not have to be directed by the practitioner. Since it is a channeled healing, the practitioner’s energies are never depleted. In fact, when giving a treatment, the Reiki practitioner is also healed and also experiences a replenishment of life force energy. People who already do healing work report that their healing energies increase at least 50% after receiving the Reiki training.

A History of Reiki

Many centuries ago, the Tibetans acquired sophisticated methods of using unpolarised energy to promote the healing of themselves and others on all levels. In the late 19th century a Japanese theological scholar, Dr. Mikao Usui, rediscovered the techniques. During his ten-year quest he found some formulas and symbols written in Sanskrit in ancient Buddhist teachings. Meditating on the holy mountain of Kunyama in Japan, he had visions of these symbols and how to use them. Thus he formulated the ‘Usui System of Reiki’.

Since the 1970s, Reiki has spread extensively worldwide and now Reiki is recognised by the Nursing Association in the USA, India and the NHS in the UK, many medical practitioners and nurses are practicing the technique.
