Victoria Dalgleish – Mainstream Reiki

My classes in 2009 have gone well and I’m looking forward to continuing in the new year. The news is that I’m going to collaborate with one of my colleagues from University London college Hospital for some teaching sessions next year.  The practice of Usui Reiki is taught in a standard way but once mastered it is encouraged to work individually and intuitively. So we are going to try to impart our collective knowledge and see what you think.

On my recent travels to Dallas I was looking into whether Reiki was practiced in US Hospitals. I found a lady Lucy Aguirre-Kelly at Baylor, head of the Behavioral Team. Within her team of Occupational and Physio Therapists they use the following methods of non-drug options and complementary approaches along side their medical disciplines;  Reiki, Reflexology, Breathing Techniques, Aroma Blends, Music, Dancing, Art and Journaling. I felt a connection to Lucy in the desire to have the humanness, touch and feelings addressed in an often stressful hospital environment.

Scientific research at Harvard Medical School and other scientific research have validated the positive effects of these non-invasive techniques.¹

I talked at a very interesting evening last night, there was lots of interest on Reiki within cancer care, how it is done and whether western nursing could integrate Reiki into their work or not. We also discussed whether the NHS should be paying complementary therapists and the majority thought yes. Positive news!

We’re nearly in the middle of the week from a first day of a Reiki One class and another. I put the week in between so that students can practice and come back with the exciting experience of using Reiki. The week is also for me to come back with the answers to new questions which I always discover whilst teaching.

Nature is an amazing thing, as is reiki. I was thinking about waves, radio, music, light and x rays to name a few. This is what reiki is, waves of energy running through the body, mind and soul. Enjoy the flowers.

A friend of mine has suggested I write this title so you might have a look around my site. I’m thinking of writing a book of quotes from my patients; a new one this week was “My whole body feels radiant, where I was feeling very cold before, thank you”
